Lake Merced Golf Course
We had 32 members and guests of members at Lake Merced Wednesday, October 7. It was perfect South San Francisco golf weather, overcast, slightly foggy, with a breeze that blew occasionally.
Thank you to our host, Lake Merced member John Chu.
It isn’t hyperbole to say Lake Merced G.C. is one of the premier courses in the City, the State and the Country. To play it was a great golf experience, especially for those of us that don’t get to play such high-end private courses often.
The holes were interesting, undulated and dog-legged. The fairways were tight, the rough was thick, the green aprons were also mowed tight and the greens were fast and subtle. With the weather and elevation changes, club selection was key, while “stay below the hole” was the word of the day.
The difficulty of the course was borne out by no one shooting their handicap. The lowest score of the day was shot by David Banyard’s guest Evan Madden. Mr. Madden plays to a scratch and his 74 took low gross. Low net was taken by Mr. Banyard’s net 73 off his 7 playing handicap. Second low gross was shot by Dave Marshall with his stellar 77. Jeff Cobb’s net 74 garnered him 2nd Low Net off his 11 handicap. Third place low gross went to another of Banyard’s guests, Spencer Crouse, for his 78. Third place low net went to Jason Flores for his net 75 off his 10 handicap. Non-members don’t get points that go to our year long Art Bridgett Trophy, but they are eligible for Prizes. Prizes of $50/30/20 Golfmart gift certificates will be emailed to the winners. Congratulations all!
