Silverado Resort & Spa North Course

A great day was had at Silverado on Thursday April 8, 2021. We played the North Course with first of 36 players starting off at 12:30. Unbeknownst to us, on Wednesday, the day before, the course hosted the final day of the Silverado Showdown, a big NCAA Women’s tournament.  What that meant is that greens were mowed low and rolled, the green surrounds and run-off areas were cut very tight and the rough was penal.  In other words, playing like the championship course that it is.  We were warned by the pro shop to spend time on the practice putting green because the greens were rolling at a 13.2 on the Stimpmeter Wednesday morning.

On the plus side of the conditions, the wind was only light.  Unfortunately, even a light wind, combined with the elevated and firm greens caused many approach shots to miss.  The wind did feel like it was laying down as the early groups came in.

With the course set-up and conditions, it was a good thing we were playing the White tees.

Seems like as tough as the course played, the sentiments were overwhelmingly positive.  “Great day, tough course. … Would love to come back and play it again sometime, especially as my game gets better.”  “Great day, bad scoring, haha.”  “Definitely a great time out yesterday!”  “Great day yesterday!”

We had a full field of 36 and it was great to see many new members, old members and returning members (“hi” John Remus!)

Our winners came from the old (I should say long-time) and new members.  In the Low Gross category, the winners were:

·       Mat Yamagata – 76, 1st Place, 100 Art Bridgett Trophy Pts, $50 Gift Card

·       John Dwyer – 86, 2nd Place, 50 Art Bridgett Trophy Pts, $40

·       Tim Ambrose – 87, 3rd Place, 25 Art Bridgett Trophy Pts 25, $25

·       Out of the money but deserving a mention, 4th Josh Brownstein and Jose Espinoza tied for 4th.

Net Winners

·       Gabe Corpuz – 1st Place, 100 Art Bridgett Trophy Pts, $50 Gift Card

·       Thomas Brooks – 2nd Place, 50- Art Bridgett Trophy Pts, $40 Gift Card

We also held our qualifying for the NCGA Net Stroke Two Person Best Ball.  We had four teams entered and were qualifying two teams.  Our qualifying teams are Thomas Brooks and Kevin Coleman, and, Dave Marshall and John Dwyer.  Congratulations, good luck at qualifying to go the Monterey!

Thanks to everyone for their cooperation in App scoring.  To make it easier, from here out, immediately after the round reconcile the paper card final scores with the App final scores and Submit the App scores.  Then we do not need emails of the scorecards.
