Richmond 2023

There were players that won contests at our tournament at Richmond C.C. last Thursday, we’ll get to them, but everyone who played was a winner.

Thanks go to Mark Rice, our host at Richmond, who unfortunately couldn’t make it due to a late conflict. Mark’s a great guy and a great lawyer, to learn more about him click on the link on his name.

To Recap Our round, we had a 9:00 a.m. reverse shotgun start. After everyone got their tee prize ProV1, groups headed off to their starting holes: 1 (2 groups), 18, 17, 16, 15.

It was a beautiful morning, as pegs were stuck in the ground. Clear, sunny, with a slight breeze and promise of a warm day. That was a promise that was never met. It got warmer, but never got what one would call warm, and I don’t mean to be a California Weather snob. Also, the slight breeze only got stiffer, more persistent, and with occasional gusts.

In addition to the challenges presented by (well, golf) the wind, the greens were particularly tough to read. They rolled true and were quick downhill.

Coming off the course, Richmond had a great burger buffet set up for us. If you missed it, it started with a Caesar salad, moved on to a pretty good potato salad, and finished up with fresh avocados among the condiments. There were burgers and dogs, and meatless burgers too (I think), in between.

While most of us were enjoying our repast, the following winners were announced:

Gross: 1. Mat Yamagata, 75; 2. Josh Brownstein, 77; 3. Richard Meyers 84.

Net: 1. Jim Sullivan Net 67; 2. Thomas Brooks Net even par; 3. Jeff Cobb Net 76

Notes: You can only win once, gross takes precedence if same place in winning both gross and net.

Closest to the Pin (3): Hole 7: Mat Yamagata 11’4”; Hole 11: Calvin Larson 4’7”; Hole 16: Josh Brownstein 16’4”.

We hope you’ll join us at Richmond next year, it’s a fun course with a great history and they put on a great lunch!
